Are you ready to do some drawing? No matter what your background, age, or experience is, there’s a Big Draw LA event for you all over Southern California during October. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise indicated.

Wednesday, September 20th

  • Painting With Pizzaz

    Come draw or paint a beautiful model in a 3-hour pose. All models will be nude or semi nude with bits of something. Like a piece of jewelry, something in their hair, or beautiful fabric or an open robe. Different model every week. More info

  • Coast Art Zone: Collaborative Drawing with Shannon Freshwater

    At Camera Obscura Art Lab
    Check out the Coast Art Zone during Coast, the City of Santa Monica's open streets event. Help create a group drawing based on the literary “exquisite corpse”. Parts of a long paper scroll are unfurled and parts are hidden. Base your drawing off of the parts you can see to make a glorious mashup! Best way to get here is by Metro, we're four blocks from the Downtown Santa Monica stop at the corner of Ocean Ave and Broadway. Otherwise, park at any of the public structures nearby and walk over!   • What Makes the World a Great Place? Art event

    Foam carving is an easy way to relief-print a quick drawing. Shannon Freshwater guides participants in techniques and style. Learn to draw and print your own personal design on fine paper with soy-based printing ink. Or choose to experiment with making art prints from plates drawn on with hot glue.     Since 2010 Los Angeles Poverty Department produces the Festival for All Skid Row Artists every 3rd weekend of October in Gladys Park on Skid Row (corner 6th Street and Gladys Avenue). The Festival encourages known neighborhood artists and identifies and brings together arts makers who are unknown even in their own Skid Row neighborhood. LAPD collects information about the artists, documents their work and creates an artists’ registry. More info
