Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art

In the time honored tradition of 18th/19th century French Academic atelier training, this event will focus on the foundational practice of drawing or painting from the plaster cast.  As with the the tradition of classical atelier training, this event is excellent for the beginning student or intermediate students who wish to push their rendering ability to the next level.  This event is uninstructed and is limited to 16 students.

Drawing Supplies Needed:

Drawing Board
18″ x 24″ Strathmore Drawing Pad, smooth
Graphite Pencils: 2H, H, HB, B, 2B, 3B
Kneaded Eraser
24″ metal ruler
measuring sticks (provided by instructor)
Razor blades (standard blades, new)
Dry Wall Sanding Sponge (Medium Grit; Hardware Store item).

Painting Supplies Needed:

Palette (gray paper palette preferred)
Palette knife (medium sized, trowel shape, relatively pointed)
Palette Cup.
6 – 10 Sable or Synthetic Sable Brushes. Rounds. Sizes should range from small to medium to large.
(Brushes must be new, like-new, or in excellent condition)
Oil Paint: Titanium White, Mars Black, Raw Umber, Cadmium Red Light or Vermillion.
18″ x 24″ stretched and primed canvas.
Medium: Walnut Oil, Gamsol. (2-3 small squeeze bottles recommended for pre-mixing medium)
Rags: (Blue Paper “Shop” towels recommended, or cut up cotton T-shirts)
