A Canterbury Collage at the Huntington

October 2, 2010

2010 Award Winner
Huntington visitors took part in a unique communal art project that celebrated the act of drawing. Nature provided the drafting materials for this wonderfully organic work of art. Using the lawn of the Palm Garden as a living canvas, visitors made their "mark" by placing leaves, twigs, dried flowers, and other botanical materials on the grass to create a giant collage. Lines, patterns, colors, and textures emerged and changed with each addition. Time-lapse photography recorded the creation of the image for the first three hours and its subsequent disappearance in the final hour. As objects were gradually removed and lines "erased," shapes and patterns continued to shift until all that was left was green.

A Lot of Potential

October 16, 2010

Outpost For Contemporary Art Presents: A Lot of Potential by Robey Clark and Jena Lee. In conjunction with The Big Draw LA, the public is invited to literally draw out the possibilities for a vacant lot on the corner of York Blvd and Ave 50 in Highland Park. Across the street from Outpost for Contemporary Art's headquarters is approximately an acre of land that has sat empty for many years, enclosed by a high chain link fence. Development plans for this lot remain undetermined despite community interest in seeing it transformed. A Lot of Potential provides a platform for people to imagine what urban spaces such as this one could become in their communities and express those ideas through the act of drawing. After the event, drawing contributions will be included in a printed catalogue archiving the project, which will be made available through The Outpost HQ.
